One hundred years ago, Norwood Park Baptist Church began meeting at the Crippen Home (now the location of the Norwood Park Historical Society). That small group of 18 were committed to the northwest side of Chicago and to building a place that would honor Jesus Christ.
In 1926 the group purchased the land at Newark and Raven and completed the first permanent structure in hopes to further cultivate and edify the local community around them. The larger addition was completed and dedicated on February 17, 1952.
Why is Windy City Community Church celebrating something that began in 1921?
Norwood Park Baptist Church merged with Windy City Community Church on August 17, 1997. This new congregation retained the name Windy City Community Church. Now in 2021 we celebrate and honor what began in 1921; God’s faithfulness in the work to bring hundreds and hundreds of children and adults to know God thru Jesus Christ at the church on the corner.
In the past century, missionaries from this church have gone on to bless our local communities through partnership with Chicago Food Depository, the Inner City of Chicago, and beyond to many locations through the United States as well as to Mexico, Canada, Philippines, Liberia, Guatemala, Italy, Portugal, Nigeria, Brazil, Argentina, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Pakistan, and Jordan.
Twenty one senior pastors have shepherded the flock. Our current pastor, Rev. Steve Story is the longest serving. He has faithfully led the church for 21 years.
Join our Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 10:30am as we look back with thanksgiving and look forward with hope!
